All image work is based on an hourly rate of $50 per hour.

The minimum charge per order is $50 (1 hour).

After the first hour, charges are based on half hour increments of $25.

To ensure your prints reflect all the visual dynamics and detail your pictures have to offer, we recommend a minimum Basic Enhancement of any image prior to printing. This action alone can work wonders, and often transforms an average image into a great one.

Based on typical images, one hour of editing would allow sufficient time to enhance and correct approximately three images.

If you choose to have your finished images printed elsewhere, we will supply a DVD of your image file and an 8” x 10” reference print for $25 per image. This assures you have a visual standard of how your image
should look when printed.

Working Scans

The first step in creating a new image from non-digital prints or other
artwork is to capture a digitized version as the basis for the new art.
We call these “Working Scans”.

Working Scans are provided at $10 per capture, are not returned with the order and are only created at the resolution required
for the final artwork.

Archival Scans

Archival Scans are intended to provide a permanent, high resolution digital record of any image that can be photographed or scanned. Favorite photos, artwork, letters or visual inventories for insurance purposes can all be
saved non-destructively for future generations.

All files are returned on high quality DVDs in 16 bit tiff format unless otherwise requested. Archival Gold DVDs are available on request
(see prices below).

NOTE: All scans are subject to the limitations listed below.

Slides and negatives submitted for “scanning only” will have dust removed but no further editing or cleaning. Glass mounted transparencies are NOT accepted. Transparency and negative scans will also be returned in FFF format at no additional charge. FFF is a propriety Hasselblad format equivalent to a RAW camera image. Information on, and the software necessary to open, edit or use files in FFF format is available at www.hasselblad.com.

Flatbed Scans (for print originals) are created as 16 bit tiff files with a Dmax of 3.6 and a resolution of up to 1600 optical dpi (dots per inch). Originals of up to12” x 17” can be accommodated.
File size will be limited to 250GB.

Larger work can be photographed digitally or on transparency film and
then scanned - contact us for more information and prices.

Negatives and Slides (up to 4” x 5”) are scanned with a Dmax of 4.9.

4” x 5” originals are scanned at 2040 dpi, yielding a 16 bit tiff file of approximately 400mb.

120 Film is scanned at 3200 dpi, yielding a 16 bit tiff file of approximately 350mb (6 x 7).

35 mm is scanned at 8000 dpi, yielding a 16 bit tiff file of approximately 480mb (35mm slides must be removed from their mounts to be scanned at 8000 dpi. Mounted 35mm slides are scanned at 5000 dpi, yielding a 16 bit tiff file of approximately 170mb).

NOTE: Other size negatives & slides smaller than 4” x 5” can be accommodated. Contact us for more information and prices.

Scans produced by ShutterSharp will be retained for a minimum of 60 days to ensure your receipt of the order and allow ordering of copies.

If directed, we will remove your files from our computers earlier. We will be happy to archive your art or photographic files for later reprinting
if you desire.

What is Dmax?

A measure of the darkest shadow that can be scanned and will still show visible detail. The higher the Dmax of a particular scanner, the wider the range of tones the scanner can capture. In the past, a Dmax value of 4.0 was considered to be perfect.
